Upper School

Upper School

In years 9, 10 and 11, the syllabus for each academic subject is closely planned in accordance with the National Curriculum and with the requirements of GCSE.

Leckby (year 9) follow the same curriculum as Year 8, consolidating Key Stage 3 topics. In Maths they start working towards their first GCSE module which will be taken at the end of Year 10 in addition to starting the GCSE statistics course which they will also take in the summer term of year 10. In Leckby pupils make an informed choice about their GCSE options through careers guidance.

Eldmire (year 10) start 11 GCSE’s with the core subjects of English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, statistics and science being taken by all pupils. Optional subjects include: Additional Science, French, Spanish, RS, History, Classics, Art, Drama, PE and Geography. Pupils have further guidance to help them chose their preferred further education establishment. There are GCSE exams in some subjects.

Thornton (year 11) have mock exams in December. They are supported in their applications to their FE choices and given interview practice etc.

All Upper School pupils take part in 3 x 1.5 hour sessions of sport or outdoor education each week.

Trips and outings

Leckby (Year 9) all have a week’s sailing in Salcombe and take part in a wilderness trip.

Eldmire (Year 10) all have an overnight camp as part of their D of E expedition work.

Thornton (Year 11) those who have opted to do Silver D of E take part in expedition work.

All classes are expected to go on at least one outing each term to complement an area of the curriculum and full use is made of the local facilities of museums, art galleries, theatres, historical sites and sites of scientific interest.
