David Lister was educated at Cundall and St Peters, York, before returning to run the family farming business, JC Lister Farms, Ltd. The twelve farms cover almost 3,000 Hectares (7000 acres) and produce sheep, Aberdeen Angus cattle, potatoes, cereal crops, sugar beet and bacon pigs, the latter having a throughput of over 2,000 pigs a week. He won the Crown Estates Farm of the Year Award in 2004, and has been a very active committee member at Askham Bryan Agricultural College, York. Seeking a direct retail outlet for his own and other local farm produce, he developed and successfully launched the Newby Hall Farm Shop. David’s son and daughter were both educated at Cundall and he is the lead governor for health and safety and grounds and property maintenance.
