Pre- Prep
At Cundall, our Pre-Prep Department offers a nurturing and stimulating start to school life, set within a safe, rural environment. Spanning from the Early Years Foundation Stage (Nursery & Reception) through to Key Stage 1 (Years 1 & 2), our Pre-Prep provides an inspiring space where children are encouraged to explore, grow, and thrive.
Reception
Early Years Foundation Stage
Reception marks the beginning of each child’s educational journey. Our experienced and caring staff ensure a smooth transition into the school setting, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere where children feel secure and supported.
Our two purpose-built Reception classrooms are thoughtfully designed to promote curiosity and creativity through a diverse range of activities. With a dedicated outdoor learning area and access to nature-based experiences in our Wild Wood, children enjoy both structured teaching and exploratory play every day. Learning takes place indoors and outdoors, rain or shine.
Reception pupils benefit from small class sizes and specialist instruction in Music, Singing, French, Tennis, and Swimming. Weekly Forest School sessions allow children to connect with the natural world, developing confidence, teamwork, and resilience.
We foster strong relationships with parents and carers, with open daily communication and an emphasis on mutual collaboration. Our focus on independence begins early, with children encouraged to take personal responsibility for their belongings and routines.
Daily 3pm- 6pm
Enrichment and wrap around care
Reception children are welcome to join our after-school Enrichment Programme, available daily from 3:20–4:00pm. A broad selection of clubs—ranging from Drama and Dance to STEAM, Yoga, and Bushcraft—ensures that each child can pursue new interests and skills beyond the classroom.
Optional Saturday Morning sessions from 9:30am–12:30pm offer further enrichment, combining sport and creative activities in a fun, relaxed setting.
Our After School Club operates from 4:00–6:00pm and is free of charge for Reception children. Held in our Pre-Prep buildings, this provision offers a calm end to the day with a light sandwich snack served at 4:45pm.
Years 1 & 2
In Years 1 and 2, we build upon the strong foundations laid in Reception. Children benefit from a broad, balanced curriculum designed to inspire a love of learning and foster key academic, social, and emotional skills.
Core subjects—English, Maths, and Science—are taught alongside a rich mix of foundation subjects including ICT, PSHE, Spanish, Music, Art, and RS. Specialist teachers deliver Spanish, Singing, Sport, Swimming, and more. Every child in Pre-Prep has access to their own Chromebook, supporting digital literacy from an early age.
Our structured timetable ensures a consistent rhythm to the school day, while regular trips to the Wild Wood provide vital time for outdoor learning and exploration. Lessons are delivered in our dedicated Pre-Prep spaces, with pupils moving to the main school for select activities.
Children in Years 1 and 2 swim twice a week in our heated pool and enjoy taking part in popular school-wide events such as the annual Fun Run and the Chocolate Cake Race.
Daily 3pm- 6pm
Enrichment and wrap around care
A wide array of after-school activities runs daily from 3:20–4:00pm. Options include Horse Riding, ICT, Art, Netball, Bushcraft, Swimming, Yoga, and more—rotating each term to offer variety and challenge.
Our After School Club continues until 6:00pm, with an earlier session available from 4:00–5:00pm. We also provide a Breakfast Club from 7:30am and an Early Drop-Off option from 8:15am, offering flexible care to suit busy family schedules.
