It’s a high tea celebration in honour of Her Majesty

Boarding pupils from Cundall Manor School joined in the Queen’s birthday celebrations as they held a high tea in honour of the monarch’s official birthday.

Children from Cundall Manor celebrated the Queen’s 90^th Birthday in a traditionally British way, enjoying tea, finger sandwiches, cream cakes and many more treats.

The school, based near Topcliffe in North Yorkshire, have been enjoying a host of royal related activities over the past year.

Boarding house master, Gary Coates, helped organise the event. He said: “Our boarders always enjoy a celebration and a high tea in honour of the Queen’s birthday seemed an apt way to celebrate the occasion.”

Boarders helped decorate the dining room in red, white and blue and even helped deck the hall in union flags.

The Queen’s official birthday follows her actual birthday in April in a tradition that is thought to date back to the reign of King George II in 1748.

Mr Coates added: “The boarders really enjoyed the occasion and learning about the monarchy and all the traditions associated with the Royal family.”

The weekend boarders had an amazing time at Beamish Wild high ropes adventure course. They spent a whole two hours climbing, balancing and jumping over a variety of treetop obstacles. They all agreed that the 45ft jump at the end was adrenaline fuelled and a good end to the course!

The holidays are coming…. Olivia and Tabby are so proud of their handiwork! Together with Niamh, Ellen and Mrs Wick, they did a beautiful job of decorating the new advent calendar for the Boarding House. Great work girls! All we need to do now is fill it with goodies.

Scarecrow Festival

Congratulations to everyone who came and joined in our inaugural scarecrow festival just before half term. The fabulous fruits of their labours added an extra dimension to life around the school grounds (there were several double takes to check whether these unfamiliar characters on the premises were in fact real!) in the run up to the half term break.

The Boarding House was positively buzzing before the half term holidays. The House Parents, Mr Coates and Mrs Conway were treated to a super Spanish supper created and served by Pol, David and Daniel. The supper consisted of tapas, gazpacho, paella and crema catalana. It was an absolute treat and enjoyed by everyone – muchas grasias!

Super Sunday was quite literately bouncing as 17 extra boarders joined the House and went in search of fun at Gravity, Xscape. It was exhausting just watching, but everyone had a really good time, followed by a hearty supper and a return to the House for chill time and lights out.

But the fun didn’t stop there. Tuesday evening saw the hosting of the termly tea party for the Boarders, this time with a Hawaiian theme. Party games galore kept the children entertained: limbo party, beach ball bonanza, and of course prizes for the best dressed. The children had a great time and said a big thank you to all of the staff involved in organising it for them and a special thank you to April and Linda for providing a super Hawaiian themed supper.
The fun just never ends in the Boarding House!

The boarders had a sweet end to a busy week with a trip to The Chocolate Story in York. As well as finding out lots of information regarding the history of chocolate in York, they were also able to sample lots of chocolate and even got to make their own bar. Steven loved it so much he asked if we could go back every week!

This weekend was the first chance for our new overseas boarders to relax, take a breath and come to terms with every new thing that they’ve encountered since arriving in the UK and of course Cundall Manor.
Did they get plenty of rest? No! Did they have a great time? Yes! They had great fun exploring their new surroundings and made full use of all the facilities that Cundall boasts: they played tennis, football, pool, went swimming, watched DVDs, surfed the net, skyped their families and ate a range of new and exciting foods.
Steven, Pol, David and Daniel showed their competitive natures when we went bowling on Saturday night – Daniel was the clear winner with Pol close in second place. But the best thing about the whole weekend was that four boys, who had never met before, ended up firm friends. Now that’s Cundall spirit!

Thank you very much to the Wild, Sullivan, Fawcett, England, Tribe and Powell families for so kindly donating uniform for our visiting Spanish boys. David and Pol are with us for the Michaelmas term and have already settled well into the Boarding House and their Eldmire form groups. With their new uniforms, they feel very much at home with their new Cundall family.

Mrs Kayll gives the boys an impromptu lesson in tie tying!

It was a healthy combination of work, rest and play in the boarding house this weekend. Following the busy Open Morning, the boarders al headed down to the Summer Fair where they took part in every activity on offer. Then it was off to Thirsk for their supper; a delicious Chinese takeaway. Sunday was a mixture of rest and prep accompanied by a trip to Sugar Mouse in Easingwold, where they each bought a range of delicious energy restoring goodies.

Another fun filled weekend was had by all in the Boarding House. After Saturday School and a lovely lunch from Edna, they set off for an afternoon at the cinema and of course a trip to their favourite supermarket to stock up on supplies for the weekend. At the cinema they enjoyed watching The Avengers with sweets and pop, followed by a delicious supper back at the Boarding House. Sunday was another hectic day. A hearty breakfast was followed by Prep, then a trip to see the Angel of The North and time to take lots of photos. Afterwards we carried on to The Metro Centre where we stocked up on items that were needed for the Summer term. KFC won the vote for lunch then a lovely drive in the sunshine back to the House to chill before the start of school again on Monday.

St Patrick's Day in the Boarding House

The boarders were treated to an early St Patrick’s Day party last Monday, which saw them enjoy a super feast provided by April and Linda. Fun and games were had by all, with hunt the treasure, dangling donuts and toss the coin in the leprechaun’s hat. Tom Dicken scooped most of the prizes and best dressed went to Ellen and Luke. It was lovely to see everyone join in and have such a good time.

The boarders had yet another fun filled weekend with a trip to the bowling alley in York on Saturday night. Victory went to Tim with Uxua following very closely in second.
Sunday was a trip to the Kayll household for an absolutely splendid Sunday lunch. Beef and Yorkshire puddings to die for were followed by scrumptious desserts and rounded off with fun parlour games. All the boarders and the Houseparents would like to extend a huge thank-you to Sally and her lovely family for being so hospitable. We will be back!
