The school recorded another wonderful set of GCSE results including 91% of students gaining the equivalent of 5 or more ‘good passes’ at GCSE. 

Pupils from the school also secured an impressive 27% of all passes at 9-7 (A*/A) grade or equivalent, significantly higher than the national average of 20.8%

The school also secured excellent overall results in subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Music, History and RS which saw 100% of pupils achieving the equivalent of a grade 4 or above.

 Pupils are celebrating having secured places at some of the county’s leading sixth form providers. 

Amanda Kirby, Headmistress at Cundall Manor School, said: “I would like to pass on my congratulations to our Year 11 students for their wonderful achievements. Every year we see how hard our pupils have worked and their commitment to achieving their very best.” 

“All our pupils should be very proud of their results and should know that their preparation for life after school has been of the highest standard.” 

She added: “This is a great set of GCSE results for our pupils and the school, despite the new tougher exams. Our pupils can now leave us very well equipped for their future destinations as well-rounded individuals with an enviable set of exam results to take them forward. All of us at Cundall wish them the very best of luck with their studies.”

 Among the school pupils celebrating their results was twins, Phoebe and Archie Frank. Phoebe, who is the Head Girl at Cundall Manor, achieved the equivalent of 11 GCSEs at grades 9-7. Phoebe, from Yarm, will now be turning her attention to her A-Levels at St Peter’s, York, starting this September. 

Talking of receiving her results, Phoebe said: “I was really excited about opening the envelope. After a long summer of waiting, it has all been worth it!” 

Adding: “All the Cundall staff have been great. I can’t thank them enough for all the help and support they gave us! They are fab.” 

Looking at becoming a Corporate Solicitor, Phoebe will study English Literature and History at A-level French and an EPQ with a view to going to university after Sixth Form.  

Brother, Archie also performed well and is looking to continue his education at Durham, after which he hopes to pursue a career in Engineering. He said: “I was rather nervous when I opened my results but I am delighted with how they turned out.”

Another pupil celebrating his GCSEs was Ben Throup. Young farmer, Ben, will start at Pocklington in September after which he aims to continue his studies in Agriculture at Newcastle University.

 Students will return to Cundall for the start of the term on Thursday 5 September and prospective parents are welcome to visit at the next Open Morning on Saturday 12th October from 10am.

The youngsters won a huge 27% of the vote in the Minster FM Battle of the Bands and will be joined at Party in the Park by 56 of their closest friends who will get free entry to Flamingo Land to watch them play.

Robin Millar CBE was the special Guest Speaker at Cundall Manor School’s annual prize-giving ceremony. Robin, who has produced 44 No.1 hits and over £400 million of sales worldwide, spoke eloquently of the need for everyone to seize the opportunity in front of them while detailing his journey through the music industry.

Robin also talked about his progressive blindness and how that affected him from an early age. Robin has a condition called Retinitis Pigmentosa and was registered blind at age 16 with no sight since 1985. He initially trained in law before his love of music provided him with a rewarding career in the business.

During his speech, Robin encouraged pupils to overcome any adversity life throws at them and become more resilient while also giving back to their community. Charity plays a big part in Robin’s life and he spoke movingly about the value of standing up for causes you believe in and doing the right thing.

Robin has Chaired fundraising Committees for the British Lung Foundation, Artists Against Apartheid, Oxfam and UNHCR and has raised £30m through a series of campaigns and events. He is a former Patron and Creative Chair of Unite for UNICEF, and Patron of the UNHCR ‘Voices for Darfur’ Appeal. He is a long-time trustee of the Vietnamese Boat Peoples’ Appeal.

Robin, who is Executive Chairman of Blue Raincoat Chrysalis Group, one of the UK’s best known independent music companies, representing the music of 200 artists, including Tina Turner, Blondie and Ultravox, was made a CBE in 2010.

Headmistress Amanda Kirby thanked Robin for his wonderful speech. She said: “It was wonderful to give Robin a warm Cundall welcome. Robin’s CV speaks for itself, but his enthusiasm and message of opportunity and resilience are fantastic messages for all our pupils to hear.”

Chair of Governors, Sir Thomas Ingilby also spoke alongside Head Boys, Freddie and Caspar and Head Girls, Phoebe and Violet.

A full awards presentation followed celebrating another wonderful year in the school’s 60- year history.

Hundreds of spectators watched under beautiful blue skies as the 26 homemade Go-Karts provide speed, theatre and some spectacular but safe crashes. This year saw friends Hugo and Henry, retain the top spot on the podium for a second year running following a morning of fun and heart-stoppingly mad-cap racing. 

The winning entry came in the form of a crowd-pleasing theatrical adaptation which tackled the hill route posting a blistering time of 9.57 secs. The winner faced tough competition from runners up Noah and Andrew who posted superb times of 9.75 secs and 10.00 secs respectively.

Joint Head, Amanda Kirby, said: “The event is now a piece of our school’s unique tradition. We always look forward to the race and it is a great way to bring the Cundall community together and have some fun.”

A Cundall Manor School pupil has scooped a national award for his artistic talents. 11-year-old William received the award for the Independent Schools Association Artist of the Month due to his recent efforts on stage and in his music examinations.

The music scholar had been travelling to the Grand Theatre in York to rehearse and perform in The Grand Old Dame of York. The experience has been wonderful for William and has been a significant year for the York pantomime, as well-loved actor Berwick Kaler, who has been part of the show for 40 years, gave his farewell performance. William made the cast was chosen to participate in some of the most high-profile performances, including Boxing Day, New Year’s Eve and the emotional last night.

The ISA also acknowledged William’s musical achievements, including an amazing 91% in his recent Grade 5 Music Theory exam.

Sarah Reece, Director of Music at Cundall Manor School, nominated him for the award. She said: “William is a wonderful music scholar and it is clear to see that is hard work and dedication is paying off and to win the artist of the month award is a great accolade.”

Marketing Manager, Paul Swalwell, added: “We were delighted to see William claim the award. It is a fantastic opportunity to see his commitment rewarded in such a wonderful competition.”

Tickets for the highly anticipated Diamond Cundall Ball are now on sale, with demand expected to be very high for the 60^th anniversary celebration.

For this year’s special celebrations, alumni and members of the Cundall community near and far, are being invited to join the Cundall Ball Committee for a night of entertainment, fun and fine dining.

The annual ball will take place on Saturday 22 June at Cundall Manor School with tickets on sale from the school.

The event follows on from last year’s success and the committee are determined to make it the biggest and best Cundall Ball yet.

Chair of the Committee, Rachel Powell, said: “The Diamond Cundall Ball will be a magnificent event and a fantastic party bringing together the whole of the Cundall community; parents, teachers, friends and Governors in celebration of a momentous occasion for the school and all that is ‘Cundall’.”
