Among the participants were superheroes, football stars, a T-Rex, and even a determined ‘President Trump,’ who launched his ‘Make America Great Again’ campaign by finishing the course—despite being tied to several classmates.

Every pupil, from Reception through to Year 8, took on the challenge of completing at least one kilometre, with most running 3-5km and navigating various obstacles along the way. After braving the cold, pupils were rewarded with steaming hot chocolate and freshly baked cookies at the finish line—a well-earned treat after their spirited effort.

Pupil sponsorship for the event raised £1,100 for York & Scarborough Hospitals Charity. At Cundall Manor, pupils are encouraged to contribute not just to their school but to the wider community. Events like this fun run reinforce the importance of giving back, fostering generosity, and proving that even in challenging weather, teamwork and determination can make a real difference.

We are incredibly proud of our pupils for their enthusiasm, resilience, and commitment to supporting such a worthwhile cause.

A Cundall Manor School pupil has scooped a national award for his artistic talents. 11-year-old William received the award for the Independent Schools Association Artist of the Month due to his recent efforts on stage and in his music examinations.

The music scholar had been travelling to the Grand Theatre in York to rehearse and perform in The Grand Old Dame of York. The experience has been wonderful for William and has been a significant year for the York pantomime, as well-loved actor Berwick Kaler, who has been part of the show for 40 years, gave his farewell performance. William made the cast was chosen to participate in some of the most high-profile performances, including Boxing Day, New Year’s Eve and the emotional last night.

The ISA also acknowledged William’s musical achievements, including an amazing 91% in his recent Grade 5 Music Theory exam.

Sarah Reece, Director of Music at Cundall Manor School, nominated him for the award. She said: “William is a wonderful music scholar and it is clear to see that is hard work and dedication is paying off and to win the artist of the month award is a great accolade.”

Marketing Manager, Paul Swalwell, added: “We were delighted to see William claim the award. It is a fantastic opportunity to see his commitment rewarded in such a wonderful competition.”

Tickets for the highly anticipated Diamond Cundall Ball are now on sale, with demand expected to be very high for the 60^th anniversary celebration.

For this year’s special celebrations, alumni and members of the Cundall community near and far, are being invited to join the Cundall Ball Committee for a night of entertainment, fun and fine dining.

The annual ball will take place on Saturday 22 June at Cundall Manor School with tickets on sale from the school.

The event follows on from last year’s success and the committee are determined to make it the biggest and best Cundall Ball yet.

Chair of the Committee, Rachel Powell, said: “The Diamond Cundall Ball will be a magnificent event and a fantastic party bringing together the whole of the Cundall community; parents, teachers, friends and Governors in celebration of a momentous occasion for the school and all that is ‘Cundall’.”

Join us at our very first Wild Wood Adventure Camp this Easter.

Our Director of Outdoor Activities, Mr Jackson, will lead the four-day camp with activities including developing bush-craft skills, outdoor cooking, den-building and much more outdoor fun culminating in a day walk on Thursday. The camp has been designed for pupils in Forms 3 – 5.

Spaces are limited due to the nature of the camp, so please book early to avoid disappointment.

Pupils were today finding out more about the benefits of a good night’s sleep as part of a national campaign aimed at promoting a healthy approach to wellbeing, both ‘inside and out.’

The sessions are part of a dedicated day promoting the positive impact sleep can have on mental health and wellbeing as the school participates in the nationwide Children’s Mental Health Week.

Tracy and Chloe from the Healthy Child Team from the Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust were on hand to provide a tailored session on how to sleep well including tips on diet, use of digital technology and how to relax.

School Nurse, Vicky Lee, organised the event. She said: “Sleep deprivation can impact on mental, physical and emotional health. For many parents bedtime can be a daily battle with children finding any excuse not to go to sleep. This can lead to children being so tired they struggle to pay attention in class. Increasing good quality sleep can improve young people’s health and wellbeing.”

She adds: “The 5-19 Healthy Child Service visited school running Sleep Workshops with all the pupils from Reception through to Year 11. They tailored each workshop to the year group and provided advice on establishing good sleep habits, how much sleep you need, sleep stoppers, screen time and relaxation techniques.”

New research released by Children’s Mental Health charity, Place2Be, suggests that children with less sleep are more likely to struggle with worries. Children and young people who usually get less than the recommended 9 hours sleep on a school night are more likely to feel that worries get in the way of school work (32% vs 22%), according to a survey of over 1,100 10-11 year-olds and 13-15 year-olds carried out by Place2Be.

School is also hosting a series of mindfulness sessions across the week, allowing pupils the chance to reflect and be consciously aware of their thoughts and feelings.

Wellbeing support teacher, Diane Riddell, said: “Mindfulness exercises are a super way to reflect. With so many pressures on our time and distractions built-in to modern day life, it is no wonder concepts such as mindfulness are growing in popularity.”

Cundall Manor School is celebrating 60 years since it welcomed its first pupils.

Pupils and staff gathered on Monday to celebrate the sixtieth anniversary of the school opening. On January 27 1959, Cundall Manor opened its doors for the very first time and has seen the school go from strength to strength.

Sixty years later, pupils and staff gathered in the late January sunshine to celebrate with cake on the lawn in front of the original manor house.

The anniversary celebrations will continue throughout the academic year with a series of events planned, culminating in the Diamond Cundall Ball on Saturday 22 June 2019.

Joint Heads, Amanda Kirby and John Sample, were on hand to lead the celebrations. John Sample has been teaching at the school for nearly 20 years. He said: “It is an honour to lead the 60th anniversary celebrations. Days like this will live long in our collective memory and we are delighted that we can provide so many wonderful opportunities for our pupils.”

Fellow Head, Amanda Kirby, added: “We are very proud of our school and our wider community. We are in a great position to take our school forward and we shall look forward to the year ahead.”

Hundreds of pupils from Cundall Manor School donned fancy dress, braved the bitterly cold January weather and traversed an obstacle course as they conquered the Race for Life in an attempt to raise funds for Cancer Research.

Pupils from the school braved the weather to take on cancer and walk, jog or run in aid of Cancer Research UK’s life-saving work. The fancy dress theme saw innovative outfits take to the course. Several pupils also decided to work together to tackle the course and compete in their own three-legged challenge.

Louise Bessey, said: “The Race for Life is a great addition to the school calendar. This is the third year we have completed the race and we have raised thousands of pounds for an unbelievable charity. The whole school community is supporting the event so it is something that really brings everyone together, all whilst raising money for a wonderful cause.”

“Most of us know someone who has been affected by cancer and we all have our special reasons for taking part and wanting to help more people survive.”

Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, in partnership with Tesco, is an inspiring series of events which raises millions of pounds every year to help fund vital research.
