What is Value Added?
Value Added is the term given to a statistical measure of how Cundall Manor improves the academic outcomes of each pupil based on a CAT4 test they took when they entered school.
In a nutshell, our data from GCSE results in 2022 showed that each pupil on average achieved a grade of 1.6 higher than they had been predicted, based on their CAT4 Test.
So, for example, if a pupil was predicted a grade 5 in their Maths GCSE when they took their CAT4 test, they are statistically likely to achieve a grade 6.6 in their GCSE Maths (5 + 1.6 = 6.6), this is rounded to a Grade 7.
What is a CAT4 Test?
Every pupil in Cundall Manor takes a CAT4 test which stands for cognitive ability test. The test measures 4 areas: verbal, non-verbal, quantitative and spatial awareness.
It is a test that is used across the UK and internationally for testing many thousands of children over many years.
When pupils sit the CAT4 test the results give us accurate predictions of what can be expected at GCSE in every subject. The data used is very statistically robust and extremely reliable. The pupil can take the test in any year group and each test is modified to reflect the age of the child.
Can my child be guaranteed to achieve 1.6 higher grades than they were predicted?
Statistically it has been shown that Cundall Manor pupils will achieve on average 1.6 higher marks on their GCSE grade on every subject. These statistics come from CAT4 data analysis sent to us from the company GL Assessments who provide the tests and analyse data across the UK.
We can’t guarantee that your child will achieve a grade 1.6 points higher than predicted by CAT4 but we can be confident that on average, they will.
How do Cundall Manor achieve a value added score of 1.6?
Cundall Manor has challenging schemes of work taught by dedicated teachers to happy children in small class sizes therefore we offer more teacher and pupil contact in lessons. Due to this, Cundall Manor statistically can improve GCSE results and can add, on average, 1.6 to each pupil’s grades in each of their subjects.
Cundall Manor pupils interact with teachers who know them well and who can support them in their learning. Smaller class sizes are less distracting for pupils with creative spaces where each pupil can grow in confidence.
Do all schools offer value added?
All schools will measure and evaluate each pupil through their chosen form of testing. Some schools use ALIS, MidYIS, YELLIS and/or SATS. How schools communicate their value to pupils’ GCSE outcomes is up to them. Our outstanding value added statistic proves that we help pupils improve their GCSEs by 1.6 grades on average for each subject, we want to tell everyone.
