The nursery offers a vibrant and engaging atmosphere where children are encouraged to question, explore and discover—learning about themselves, others and the world around them. Through a carefully balanced curriculum of structured activities and child-led play, we foster independence, creativity and a lifelong love of learning, preparing children for the very best start to school life.
WHY CHOOSE US
Nursery
Each day is shaped by children’s curiosity and enthusiasm, with learning carefully tailored to their individual needs. Children learn through a balanced mix of child-initiated play and adult-led activities, helping them develop confidence, independence and a love of learning.
Our Nursery follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, with a programme designed around the interests and development of each child. In their Pre-School year, children take part in regular Phonics and Number sessions, building early literacy and numeracy skills in preparation for Reception. Learning is further enriched by weekly specialist teaching in French, Music and Singing.
Through play, exploration and guided activities, children develop key EYFS areas, including communication and language, physical development, and personal, social and emotional skills. Nursery children learn in three spacious classrooms, with access to covered outdoor and creative spaces, as well as a dedicated outdoor play area.
A VARIED TIMETABLE
Early Years Approach
The early years are the most important years of your child’s development—90% of brain growth happens before the age of 5. These formative years shape how children learn, respond and engage with the world around them. At Cundall our gentle structure, encouragement and exploration nurtures happy and engaged learners. Â
By introducing specialist teaching early on, our little learners benefit from varied teaching styles and meaningful interactions with a range of adults. This builds confidence in communication and social interaction—laying a strong foundation for future growth.
We nurture curious, capable, and confident little learners every day.
SAFE AND SUPPORTED
Key Person Allocation
In Nursery each child is allocated a Key Person on arrival. Their role as Key Person is to make sure that your child’s needs, both educationally and pastorally, are met and that your child’s next steps are planned and supported. They will be on hand at daily drop off and pick up times to answer your questions and are available both to discuss any issues or concerns and to celebrate successes with you. When your child moves through to the Reception class the role of the Key Person is taken over
by their class teacher.

STARTING SCHOOL
Reception Transition
Our Pre-School children (aged 3–4) are gently introduced to phonics and numeracy, helping them prepare for the transition to a more structured school day. This careful approach builds confidence and supports a smooth move into Reception.
During the Summer term, children spend time in the Reception classroom to become familiar with the new environment ahead of their September start. Those moving into our Reception class also enjoy taster sessions with the Reception teacher, while the teacher regularly visits the Nursery throughout the year for story time and shared activities—helping children feel confident, secure and ready for school life.
Specialist Teaching
From an early age pupils are introduced to Music, Singing, Languages and Forest School – inspiring a love of learning.Â
Freshly prepared food
Table manners and etiquette are encouraged daily in the dining hall, where pupils enjoy healthy, freshly prepared meals made by our chefs.
