Scholarships at Cundall
At Cundall Manor School our aim is to ensure every child is given the opportunity to find their own talent and to reach their full potential, in whatever field that may be and regardless of their family circumstances.
Scholarships at Cundall are hard won and those who are awarded them should feel justly proud of their achievement.
Scholarships celebrate the talent of children in a range of areas (not just academia) and allow them to join a community where that talent will be nurtured, maximised and celebrated.
Our bursaries and other awards enable pupils to become, or continue to be part of, a learning community that they might not otherwise be able to enjoy.
Applications are open to pupils currently in Year 6 (for entry into Year 7) and pupils currently in Year 9 (for entry into Year 10). Scholarships take effect from the start of the new academic year in Years 7 and 10 respectively.
ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS
These are awarded to pupils who demonstrate exceptional academic ability and the
potential to achieve top grades (8s and 9s) across the board at GCSE.Â
SPORT SCHOLARSHIPS
These are awarded to pupils who demonstrate sporting and athletic potential and the ability to play a leading role in one or more of our major team sports – hockey, netball, rugby union, football and cricket. Sport scholars will usually be playing sport at a county or academy level (or above).
PERFORMING ARTS SCHOLARSHIP
These are awarded to pupils who demonstrate the potential to play a leading role in our performing arts productions and concerts. In Drama, they would usually be able to evidence a track record of performances and age-related graded achievement in LAMDA.
In Music, scholars would usually be able to evidence a track record of performance and age-related graded achievement in ABRSM or Trinity awards.
CREATIVE ART SCHOLARSHIPS
These are awarded to pupils who demonstrate the potential to achieve a Grade 9 at GCSE.
Scholars would usually be able to demonstrate a portfolio of their art to date.
ALL ROUNDER SCHOLARSHIPS
These are awarded to pupils who fit into more than one of the scholarship categories above.
SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
Internal Candidates
Pupils already at the school are considered automatically for scholarships before they enter Year 7 and Year 9 recommendations are subsequently made to the Scholarship Committee by those responsible for Academic oversight, sport and the creative and performing arts. Those pupils who are successful are then informed in writing by the Headmaster.
SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
External Candidates
External candidates for scholarships are invited in for an assessment day.
To be considered for a scholarship, pupils must demonstrate an excellent school disciplinary record and a positive academic work ethic.
How to Apply
To apply for a scholarship, the candidate needs to write to the Head with the following:
- A letter of application that includes the applicant’s areas of interest (Academic, Art, Drama, Music, Sport, or All-Rounder), along with a description of their personality and values.
- Their existing school will be asked to provide a reference as part of our application process.
- All applicants will be invited to attend a scholarship assessment day, where they be interviewed by the Head and will then participate in various activities based on their selected disciplines together with existing pupils at the school.
- All external applicants will sit a CAT test and then undertake an assessment relevant to their application. These may include an assessed performance (Drama), a Music performance, a fitness and skills assessment followed by a games afternoon (Sport), a still life drawing exercise and conceptual ideas response (Art).
- Those wishing to be considered for an Academic or Allrounder award will also have an interview from a member of the Maths department and the English Department.
The day is designed to be an enjoyable experience for everyone.
