ENRICHING CO - CURRICULUM

Beyond the Classroom

Life at Cundall Manor extends far beyond the classroom. From competitive sport and outdoor adventure to leadership, performing arts and enrichment clubs, pupils are encouraged to explore new interests, embrace challenge and develop the confidence, resilience and independence that prepare them for life beyond school.

Sport & Competition

Sport is an integral part of life at Cundall Manor, with opportunities for pupils to represent the school, develop new skills and enjoy healthy competition.

Our pupils compete in a busy fixture programme throughout the year alongside regional and national competitions, including ISA events, rugby festivals and hockey tournaments. National and international sports tours—including Loretto and our upcoming Barbados Tour in 2027—provide unforgettable sporting experiences.

Whether representing the school for the first time or competing at national level, every pupil is encouraged to challenge themselves and enjoy being part of a team.

Outdoor Education & Adventure

Our own Wild Wood forms part of the weekly timetable, giving pupils regular opportunities to learn outdoors, build practical skills and develop confidence in the natural environment.

As pupils progress through the school, they take on increasingly ambitious adventures, from annual residentials and climbing Ben Nevis to completing the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, sailing in Cowes and achieving their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. These experiences build resilience, teamwork and leadership while creating memories that last a lifetime.

Residentials & Expeditions

Residential experiences are an important part of every pupil’s journey through Cundall Manor.

Each year group enjoys age-appropriate residential trips designed to build confidence, independence and teamwork. From camp-outs and outdoor pursuits to adventurous weeks in Wales involving climbing, canoeing and caving, pupils are encouraged to step beyond their comfort zone in a safe and supportive environment.

These shared experiences strengthen friendships while developing valuable life skills.

BRONZE / SILVER

Duke of Edinburgh's Award

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award plays an important role in Senior School life.

Every Year 9 pupil completes the Bronze Award as part of the curriculum, with Silver available in Year 10. Weekly expedition training develops navigation, first aid and campcraft before pupils undertake expeditions in the Yorkshire Dales or North York Moors.

The Award develops resilience, independence and teamwork while giving pupils nationally recognised achievements that are valued by universities and employers.

Clubs & Enrichment

With activities available daily after school until 5.00pm, pupils are encouraged to explore new interests and discover lifelong hobbies.

Our ever-growing enrichment programme includes everything from fishing, golf and shooting to street dance, musical theatre, astronomy, chess, coding, choirs and creative arts. Whether trying something completely new or developing an existing passion, there is something for everyone.

New clubs are introduced regularly, ensuring the programme continues to evolve alongside pupils’ interests.

Educational Visits & Experiences

Learning regularly extends beyond the school gates.

Throughout the year, pupils enjoy curriculum visits, theatre trips, fieldwork, workshops, guest speakers and cultural experiences that enrich classroom learning and broaden their understanding of the world.

These opportunities inspire curiosity, bring subjects to life and help pupils make meaningful connections between their studies and the wider world.

Discover more

Leadership & Independence

Leadership opportunities are woven throughout school life.

Pupils can become House Prefects, Head Boy or Head Girl, lead charity initiatives, organise fundraising events and develop entrepreneurial skills through school fairs and enterprise activities.

Termly pupil voice meetings give children the opportunity to influence decisions across the school, encouraging responsibility, communication and active participation within the community.
